wtf is wrong with Americans and not turning right?
I remember another outdoor/hunting/fishing show in the mid maybe late 60s called Outdoors Unlimited. It was produced out of CFCN Calgary. I believe the hosts name was Keith McCool.
You're in for a surprise... I've also been gifted all his surviving footage by his family. Beautifully shot footage. I will be uploading them in the fall.
Remember him well. Sort of a local legend in his day....
Me and some friends snuck into that John Mayal concert, Thanks for the posting
I had a friend who went to one of the government buildings in Salisbury just over after the communist takeover she had some business she had to take care of, and as she approached the building, she smelled the most horrifying stench . She could imagine she was certain they were human bodies decaying in, the hundred degree heat, but she put a handkerchief to her nose and continue towards the building. She realized it was chickenshit The building had been taken over by the locals and they brought in their chickens to live in the building with them chickens, chick shit was baking in the sun, and she said it looked like it had been there for weeks. Naturally no government business was possible
Thank you so much for doing this… I remember this show fondly. Ted Peck and his ‘Sportsman’s’
I was there
Back in the early 60's us kids would urge Mom to smoke her brains out with Sportsman so we could mail in the fly images of the empty packs to enter the draw at the end of each episode. On a side note my old Mom lived to the ripe old age of 93.
Love this! More please!
Such dramatic music! Yes, please do post more episodes
Hi Francis, Funny .... I was talking the other day to another senior about Ted Peck and his TV show from the early 60's. It was a show my family watched regularly. I have remembered Ted's famous show ending comments all these years... "Tight Lines and Straight Shooting". Thanks for posting.
Please run the whole series
Fantastic early startup of search and rescue in British Columbia. Thank you for sharing.
I was 18 , seems like yesterday.
I wasn't yet 1 year old , but I'm sure my family had me down there at the stampede.
Man that stampede stuff must be hard on the balls.
Crazy this felt like yesterday 😢😢
Nice to see my old Office (The Operations Centre) in a few shots ☺
2:36 is River and Donald heading towards Confusion Corner, I'm pretty sure. 3:33 Ellice, North of what is now Portage Place
❤
Damn did the crash really level that many trees!?!
Yep.
Cool!
New war thunder premium looking good
That's a crystal clear sound capture of these 50s!!
I was shocked to see a lady riding along as a passenger in the speedster but I'm guessing that it was during the parade lap or at least I hope so. lol
Nice.
The ski and beach scene in the beginning looks like Montreal. The beach reminds me of Oka beach outside Montreal. All the boats suggest high density population. Nova Scotia beaches have ocean that goes on for awhile.
This is amazing, do you have any footage or info about the mock atomic bomb that went off during the war games in sarcee around 1957?

At 2:48 that shot is not Barkerville but of Wells BC.
7:45 i vividly remember that natural gas sign, with the genie, on the right as starting over the river via the disraeli freeway.
Love to see all the fashions that have returned. Checked and striped pants, lots of London fashion. Life was a lot less complicated.
Great video with excellent camera work, love seeing the reaction times. Sad Calgary no longer has a Drag Strip.
What a beauty!
Wonderful video ! I love it so much . Thank you for sharing . Happy week-end to you !
Boy it is weird driving up the Hope Princeton highway, so many changes. Including an ugly mine to top it of.
What a different time! All that ivy on the Empress nearly destroyed the Empress. Just image all the history that would have been lost if not for people wanting to film events.
Only 2k? Slowww😂
Where does the time go? 1971 seems like just yesterday!
6:06 BAe 146!! Haven't seen one of those in a long time!
AND a Dash 7 at 8:18 !!! Four-engine planes used to be so much more common.
They were pretty common when I worked there in 1999 as an aircraft refueler. And those loud Fokker F28
I remember when that building was PWA
so outstanding vlog. 😮
I did that trip. Yoho and spiral tunnels a highlight. It was much better than the Greyhound bus out to Vancouver.
It’s great to see my Dad Lew Haley chuckling with some old comrades and their wives at 30:47. A Kapyong vet and one proud Patricia.
Before the big blizzard?
1969 started with a very warm spring by Miles for Millions day May 23 and that summer was the hottest summer in Vancouver in my memory. We've not had a warmer summer since then. We didn't realize how good we had it then.
Was that highway 2 north or south of airdrie ?
Telex stayed a bit longer in Europe, becaus the messages were "trusted", i.e. a telext was legally on the same level as a "registered letter" where the receiving party signed the reception. That's why it could be used to send orders to banks, courts, government offices and the like - something that we **still** dont have with email in 2024.
One commenter correctly points out the Cog RR and the hotels. However, the later scene with the walking-beam steamboat is NOT the Mt. Washington on Lake Winnipesaukee. At first, I thought it was, but the Mt. Washington was clearly lettered on the side and easy to spot in old films and photos. While cruising the body of water, I noted that the islands and steep hills leading down to the water were not characteristic of New Hampshire. The final two scenes of the boat ride confirmed this as the ride passes what today is the Sun Castle Resort on Lake George in NY. The boat then approaches the docks where the Delaware & Hudson RR station is located and steam from at least one locomotive can be seen rising amidst the buildings. Because this is confirmed to be Lake George, the boat in the footage, passing the one the passengers were aboard, was the Horicon (2nd). It was built in 1910 and scrapped in 1939. You can just make out the name on the side now that you know what it is. By process of elimination of the vessels sailing for the Lake George Steamboat Company of the time period, I can pretty much deduce that the vessel the passengers were aboard was the Sagamore, which was taken out of service in 1932 and scrapped a few years later. Last but not least, the church in the ending scene is NOT in Laconia, NH. It does not match and also a trolley car passes by, and it has the VERY UNUSUAL feature of having TWO trolley poles going up to two separate wires. Sadly, I don't know what trolley operations used this arrangement, but it was very rare and a person more knowledgeable than I am in trolley operations should know.
Thank you. This is the level of attention to detail I appreciate. Not so much to argue with others, rather like science, to challenge until the evidence can be supported. Eventually, perhaps in a few years when a larger body f people have viewed he footage, we will have a more accurate account of the locations that will benefit historians and locals alike. Well done and thank you.
@@ReelLifeCanada - The vast consensus of my streetcar fellow member is that the car near the last part of the film is in Cincinatti, OH as they used the dual trolley poles and had cars of that design. However, I could not find a match for the church.
no wonder there is no private video footage of calgary before 1990's, the prosumer video camera cost +10k back then, where 10k is worth a lot. like a big down payment for a house
